Presidential biographies Well written!?

I am looking for condensed (and I mean non-condensing several volumes or more than 800 pages) biographies of presidents. I'm not particular, if you've read a good then let me know. In addition, it would be better not read like a textbook, no I am writing an essay or anything so I do not have to be rigid.
